American Kenpo Karate:

American Kenpo Karate is considered one of the top stand alone combat martial arts.  Along with all the standard karate techniques, Kenpo has fierce multiple strikes, takedowns, joint locks and breaks.  Some describe Kenpo as stand up grappling.  When the opponent is taken to the ground, it is for the quick, brutal finish.  With the advent of Mixed Martial Arts, UFC, Pride, and Cage fighting, it became obvious that increased ground fighting skills are necessary.

Modern Army Combatives (MAC):

In 1995 the Commander of the Army 2nd Ranger Battalion ordered a reinvigoration of Combatives training.  The Ranger commander appointed a comittee headed by Matt Larson which began to look for a better method.  The Jiu-Jitsu taught at the Gracie Academy fit many of the battalions needs.  They also began to draw from other martial arts to fill in the tactical gaps of pure Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.  The classic plan of taking an opponent down and submitting works well in the arena but in the real world the tactics must fit the tactical situation.  The concept of positional dominance from Jiu-Jitsu was expanded to the other ranges of combat and blended with techniques from wrestling, boxing, Muay Thai, Judo, and weapons fighting from Kali becoming what is now known as Modern Army Combatives (MAC)

Progressive Combatives Kenpo is based in American Kenpo integrated with Modern Army Combatives.  Along with the standard Kenpo techniques, break falls and then basic ground fighting skills are introduced in early training.   As we progress, the Kenpo and MAC techniques, takedowns, and ground fighting advance.  The training offered can include rank advancements through the standard belt system or be done just for self improvement as the student desires.  Sparring is mandatory as training advances, but control and protective equipment are required.  As the student masters the previously mentioned techniques, we will progress towards edged weapon and stick training.

Progressive Combat Kenpo Updates:
